Although not legal without British permit during the colonial days, land speculation by developers flourished. One such land speculator was Judge Henderson of North Carolina who purchased land from the Cherokees, an act forbidden by British law. Some of the land in Judge Henderson's "purchase" was the Cherokee hunting grounds of present day Middle Tennessee. |
